Stress and its influence factors among medical students

  • ObjectiveTo explore the mental health,physical health,study pressure,life pressure and their influencing factors among medical students.MethodsThe mental and physical health of 538 undergraduates majoring in clinical medicine in Medical College and International Institute of Ji'nan University were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire.ResultsThe score of the General Health Questionnaire showed that there were 64.9% of the students suffering from stress.Taking 61-90 minutes excercise every day was a protective factor for general stress(odds ratioOR=0.23, P<0.05).Physical discomfort except for musculoskeletal pain(OR=1.66,P<0.05)and worrying about employment (OR=1.12,P<0.01)were risk factors of general stress.Compared with medical students majoring in clinical medicine, the total stress score of students majoring in general medicine were the lowest.Healthy lifestyle(OR=0.84,P<0.01)and non-mainland student(OR=0.47,P<0.01)were protective factors for study stress,while worrying about employment (OR=1.11,P<0.01)increased study stress.ConclusionA lot of medical students suffer from stress.Colleges and universities should pay more attention to psychological stress of the medical students.
