Epidemic characteristics of syphilis and gonorrhea in Quzhou city from 2004 to 2009

ObjectiveTo know the epidemic characteristics of syphilis and gonorrhea in Quzhou and to provide scientific basis for prevention and control measures.MethodsThe epidemic report data of syphilis and gonorrhea in Quzhou city from 2004 to 2009 were collected and analyzed.ResultsFrom 2004 to 2009,the incident rate of syphilis increased year by year,and that of gonorrhea increased from 2007.The difference in incidence of the disease in different years was statistically significant(χ²=1 174.307 and 242.218,P<0.01).The highest incidences of 950.9 and 754.9/100 000 for syphilis and gonorrhea occured in Kecheng district.The majority of the cases were found in the youths and the middle-aged residents.ConclusionSyphilis and gonorrhea are important infectious diseases in Quzhou city.It is necessary to adopt effective measures to prevent and control the prevalence of the diseases.
