Plasmodium infection among Peacekeeping Force of Unite Nation in Congo(DRC)

ObjectiveTo study plasmodium infection among Peacekeeping Force of Unite Nation in Congo(DRC)in order to provide guidance to decrease the infection.MethodsThick and thin blood smear slides of 816 persons of Peacekeeping Force from China,Pakistan,India,and Bengaladesh and worked in Congo(DRC)just one month were collected to detect the plasmodium infection.Their working condition and protective methods against the mosquito and malaria were surveyed with a questionnaire.ResultsThe plasmodium infection rate of the persons was 29.66% (242/816)and there existed a lower infection rate(29.13%)in male than in female(56.25%)(P<0.05).The composition ratio of the Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax,Plasmodium malaria,and Plasmodium ovale was 78.10%,7.44%,14.46% and 0%,respectively.The infection rate among the Peacekeeping Force from China was significantly lower than that of from other countries(P<0.05).The infection rate among the Peacekeeping Force from Pakistan was significantly lower than that of from India and Bengaladesh(P<0.05)and as well as that of from Indian was lower than that from Bengaladesh(P<0.05).The infection rate among the persons engaged in medical affairs was significantly lower than that engaged in other affairs(P<0.05).ConclusionPlasmodium falciparum was the main kind of plasmodium that infected the Peacekeeping Force persons.The infected rates are defferent among the persons with defferent types of affair and preventive measures should be taken among different task groups.
