Evaluation on effect of different interventions on AIDS in rural adolescents out of school

  • ObjectiveTo explore the effective interventions on AIDS among rural adolescents out of school.MethodsTo tally 430 adolescents out of school and a tage of 13-18 years were selected.Different AIDS health education interven tions were adopted and their effects were assessed with questionnaire of knowledge on AIDS before and after the intervention anonymously.ResultsThe average awareness rates of AIDS-related knowledge in the adolescents before and after interventions were 47.09% and 85.22%,respectively.The awarenessrates of the question'HIV could not spread from person to person by a mosquito bite' before and after the interventions were 21.9% and 87.1%.The knowledge rates of question ‘HIVcould not spread through eating at the same tablewith AIDS patients' before and after interventions were 28.4% and 81.0%.All of the interventions could increase the scores of questions of AIDS related knowledge.There were significant differences among the different intervention groups(F=2.140,P<0.05).The mean scores increased for comprehensive intervention,peer education and lecture intervention were 45.72,42.33,and 35.56,respectively.ConclusionAll the interventions used in the study could improve out-of-school adole scents' AIDS related knowledge.The effective methods are comprehensive intervention,peer education and lecture intervention.
