Prevalence of metabolic syndrome and related factors among community residents

  • ObjectiveTo analyze metabolic syndrome(MS)preva lence and its influence factors among community residents of Wenzhou city.MethodsWith cluster random sampling,1 872 permanent residents above the age of 18 years were seleted for a cross sectional study including questionnaire survey,physical examination and laboratory test.ResultsThe standardized prevalence rate of MS was 17.2% (13.1% in the males and 20.8% in the females).MS prevalence in creased with the increase of age.Logistic stepwise regression analysis showed that older age,female,family history of hypertension and diabetes,and taking a large amount of food were the risk factors of MS.High education,more occupational physical activity,participating in physical activity,moderate life and work stress,and more walking were inhibitive factors of MS.ConclusionThere is a high prevalence of MS in community residents of Ouhai district, Wenzhou city and comprehensive measures should be taken as so on as possible to control the risk factors of MS.
