Causes of foodborne disease outbreak in rural areas of Liaoning province

  • Objective To understand the situation of foodborne disease in the rural areas of Liaoning porvine and to analyze main causes of the disease.Methods The information on foodborne disease in the rural areas of Liaoning provice form 1996 to 2006 were collected and analyzed with descriptive epidemio logical methods.Results There were 212 outbreaks of foodborne disease with 4 569 patients and 30 deaths.Among these outbreaks, 178 had specific pathogens with 3 556 patients and 30 deaths.The polluted food causing the foodborne diseases were mainly meat products(23.2%), toxic mushroom (23.0%), grain(17.4%), vegetables(16.3%), aquatic product(12.4%), and other food(10.7%).Conclusion The foodborne disease was not under control in the rural areas of Liaoning province and meat product and toxic mashroom were main polluted food.
