Influence of subchronic samarium exposure on liver tissue structure in mice

  • Objective To observe the influence of subchronic samarium exposure on liver tissue structure in mice. Methods Eighty mice were randomly divided in to 5 groups. The mice in control group were exposed to pure water and the mice in experimental group were exposed to 5, 50, 500, and 2 000 mg/L aqueous solution of samarium nitrate. After 90 days treamtent, the mice were killed and their liver were rapidly and accurately weighed and the histological changes of the liver were examined with light microscopy and electronic microscopy. Results Compared with the control group, the body weight of the exposed groups was not obviously different. The liver index of 2000 mg/L samaric nitrate trentment group was remarkably lower than that of the control group.Lightmicroscope inspects showed swelling, mild distortion, and the loose of liver cells, the swelling of hepatic cord, and the narrow of liver sinus and central vein in the mice exposed to 500 mg/L samaric nitrate. The rupture and fuzzy edge of liver cell were observed with light micro scope in the mice with 200 mg/L samaric nitrate exposure. The unevenness of per inuclear gap and karyotheca winding, reduction of mitochondria, hyperpasia of rough endoplasmic reticulum, degranulation, and few high electron density compact body were observed with electronic micro scope in liver cells of 50mg/L samaric nitrate exposure group; the decrease and fuzzy structure of organells, disappearance of rough endopla smic reticulum around the nucleus, decrease of glycogen granule, and some high electron density compact body were observed in liver cells of 500 mg/L group. The decreased electron density of nucleus, many dense bodies with high density and small volume, fat drops around the nucleus, low electron density and unstructured mitochodria, and the expansion of endoplasmic reticulum were observed in liver cells of the mice with 2000 mg/L sam aric nitrate exposure. Conclusion High dose samaric nitrate has certain harm effects on livers structure suggesting the liver is the targe to rgan of sam arium.
