Development of self-esteem scale for high school students

  • Objective To develop a self-esteem scale with good reliability and validity for high school students.Methods The selfe-steem structures were formed by analyses of literature, questionnaire survey and interview among high school students.To tally 615 high school students were investigated with the self-esteem scale developed.The data was analyzed with project analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and reliability and validity tests.Results The self-esteem scale was established with five factors including the self-esteem of study, family, conversing, society, and body.The reliability and validity of the scale were satisfactory, with a cumulative contribution rate of 47.401%, a coefficient of stability of 0.856, and a coefficient of split-half reliability of 0.788.The content validities were from 0.643-0.764.Conclusion The self-esteem scale for high school students was developed and the structure of the scale is reasonable.
