Protective effect of sound conditioning on human auditory system

  • Objective To explore the effect of acclimatization exposure to noise on human auditory system and its antilipid peroxidation mechanism. Methods The test group was exposed first to low-level noise 4 hours a day for 10 days and then to high-level noise 3 hours a day for 6 days. The control group was only exposed to high-level noise 3 hours a day for 6 days. After the high-level noise exposure, the temporary threshold shift(TTS) and serum malonodialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathione peroxidasee(GSH-Px) contents were determined. Results The test group showed a significant TTS reduction compared with that of the control.Blood serum MDA decreased and serum SOD,GSH-Px increased in the test group. Conclusion Sound conditioning can reduce the TTS and lipid peroxidation damage of noise exposure, suggesting that the application of free radical scavengers and antioxidants may prevent or reduce noise-induced hearing loss.
