Relationship between sexual attitudes and parental rearing styles among college students

  • ObjectiveTo explore the characteristics of college students'sexual attitudes and the relationship between parental rearing styles and college students'sexual attitudes.MethodsA survey was conducted among 455 college students in Yunnan with a self-designed sexual attitudes scale for college student and Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran.ResultsThe male students showed higher scores than those of the female for open tendency(3.41±0.87 vs 2.72±0.71),emotional tendency(3.16±0.95 vs 2.83±0.93),and requirement tendecny(3.84±0.84 vs 3.59±0.83) (P<0.01 for all).Whereas the female stuents had a higher score in avoidence tendency than the male(2.76±0.67 vs 2.37±0.83,P<0.001).The sophomores had a higher score for open tendency than the freshmen(3.12±0.87 vs 2.77±0.75,P<0.001).The sexual attitude of the students was not significantly influenced by their majors,living places, their parents'occupation and their fathers'education(all P>0.05),but influenced by their mothers'education.Father and mother's rearing styles had a predictive effect on college students'sexual attitude.ConclusionParental rearing styles influence the formation and development of sexual attitude among college students.
