Mortality and its tendency among residents of Macau during years of 1997-2006

  • ObjectiveTo study the causes of death in Macau's population and to provide evidence for health care planning.MethodsThe data was gathered from demographic statistics and statistics yearbook of Statistics and Census Bureau of Macau SAR Government,1997-2006.The International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 9th Revision(ICD-9)was used to classifiy the cause of death.The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics.ResultsThe crude mortality was 316.37 per 100,000;the average annual population growth rate was 0.02%.The leading causes of death were cardiovascular disease,tumor,and respiratory disease.The mortality rate of cardiovascular diseases was decreased by 4.39% per year but the mortality rate of tumor was increased by 3.2% annually.ConclusionThe mortality of Macau residents is far lower than the other cities'in China.However,the increasing of tumor mortality is obvious.
