Nutrition intake among middle-aged and elderly residents in Liaoning province, 2009

  • Objective To assess nutrition intake among middle-aged and elderly residents in Liaoning province and to provide evidence for making social development stratigies by the government.Methods The data of 536 residents at or above the age of 50 years were collected from the data of the Survey on Dietary Nutrition and Health in Residents of Liaoning Province,2009 and analysed.Results Among the residents,the standardized average daily energy intake was 8 510.05 kJ(2 040.78 kCal).The energy intake was 95.47% of recommended nutrient intake(RNI) and mainly from food.The daily average intake of protein,fat,carbonhydrate,and dietary fiber was 66.83 g (95.47% of RNI),68.35 g,274.60 g,and 13.01 g,respectively.There were seriously insufficient average intakes of vitamin A(557.94 μg retinol equiavlent,74.39% of RNI),vitamin B1 (0.95 mg,74.39% of RNI),and vitamin B2 (0.83 mg,59.29% of RNI).There were higher average daily intakes than the adequake intake(AI) for sodium (4808.03 mg,2.19 times of AI),iron(21.27 mg,1.42 times of AI),phosphorus(984.14 mg,1.41 times of AI),and maganese(4.14 mg,1.72 times of AI),but the average daily intake of calcium was only 454.89 mg(45.49% of AI).Conclusion There was an imbalance in average daily nutrition intake among the residents at or above the age of 50 years in Liaoning province and health education on reasonable diet needs to be promoted to prevent malnutrition-related diseases among the residents.
