Health status and influence factors in college teachers

  • Abstract:Objective To examine the health condition and its influence factors among college teachers and to provide evidence for improving physical and mental health of the teachers.Methods Totally 1 378 college teachers selected with stratified cluster random sampling from 4 collges in Wuhan city were surveyed with a self-designed questionnaire.Results In the teachers,there were 406 (29.3%) being overw eight or obesity.There were 477 persontimes of illness expemience among the teachers,with 170(37.4%) of hypertension,94(20.7%) of digestive system dis-eases,and 58(12.8%) of respiratory system diseases,32(7.0%) of cardiovascular diseases other than hypertension,32 (7.0%) of urinay system diseases,22(4.8%) of nervous system diseases,and 47(10.3%) of other diseases.There were 675 teachers reporting sub-health conditions,accounting for 67.77% of teachers without disease history and mainly with the symptoms of back pain,fatigue and drow siness,and memory loss.Psychological sub-health conditions were reported by 49.1% of the healthy teachers,with the main symptoms of distraction,irritability and anxiety.There were significant differences in smoking,wine drinking,water drinking,diet behavior,sleep time and quality,and physical and working time between the teachers with and without sub-health conditions.Conclusion The universities should conduct physical examination in teachers regularly and health education of various patterns is also needed to promote the halth status of the college teachers.
