Influencing factors of subjective well-being among college students

  • Objective To analyze the status and influencing factors of subjective well-being(SWB) among college students,and to provide substantial evidences for mental health education in universities.Methods Happiness Scale of International Questionnaire was used to test 351 college students.Results The total SWB (4.82±1.02) among the students was at a moderate-high level.The scores of negative affection(2.56±0.91),positive affection(3.85±1.17),and life satisfaction(3.53±0.98) were at a moderate-low level.Male students show ed markedly higher level than female students in negative affection(P< 0.001).The negative affection of the senior students was significantly higher than that of the students of other grades(P< 0.01) and the freshmen demonstrated a higher negative affection than the juniors (P<0.05).The students with great ideal had significantly higher SWB level than that of students with common and low ideal(P< 0.01),and the students in strong learning atmosphere had significantly higher SWB level than that of students in weak learning atmosphere(P< 0.001).Conclusion College students' overall SWB is at moderate-high level,and there are significant differences in overall SWB among the students with different ideal and different learning atmosphere,w hile there is no significant difference among the students of different gender,grade,major,and from different living place.
