Knowlege, attitude, practice, and demand of reproductive health among college students in Tangshan

  • ObjectiveTo examine knowledge,attitude,practice(KAP),and education demand of reproductive health among college students,and to provide scientific evidence for conducting reproductive health education.MethodsWith stratified cluster sampling method,1 699 students were selected from 4 universities and surveyed with a self-designed questionnaire anonymously.Results The average scores of sexual physiology and sexually transmitted diseases(STDs)knowledge of the students were 8.6±2.3 and 11.4±3.5.The scores of sexual physiology and STDs knowledge in medical students were higher than those of in non-medical students(P<0.001).The sexual physiology and STDs scores of the senior students were higher than those of the junior students,and the scores of the students from urban area were higher than those of from town or rural area with significant differences(P<0.001 for all).There was a significant difference in the score of sexual physiology knowledge between the female students and male students(t=27.660,P<0.001),but not in the score of STDs knowledge(t=3.455,P=0.063).There were 80.3% and 65.3% of the students reporting unlikly to make friend with STDs patients or human immunodeficiency virus infected person.There were 7.7% of the students reporting pre-marital sex experiences.The students obtained the knowledge of reproductive health mainly from newspaper and magazine,teachers,friends,and classmates and 93.0% of the students would like to accept education on prevention of STDs/AIDS.ConclusionThere are a deficit in knowledge of sexual physiology and STDs and discrimination against patients of STDs/AIDS among college students in Tangshan city.Comprehensive education on reproductive health should be conducted among the students.
