Correlation of ocular discomfort and contact lens wearing habit among college students

  • ObjectiveTo examine current status of contact lens wearer and to compare the differences of eye health between contact lens wearer and non-contact lens wearer and explore the impact of contact lens wearing behavior on ocular discomfort among college students.MethodsA total of 1 675 students were randomly chosen from five universities and colleges in Ji'nan city and were surveyed with a self-designed questionnaire.Results The percentage of wearing contact lens in the students was 18.4%.Contact lens wearer and non-contact wearer reported significant differences in 11 ocular discomforts(all P<0.05).The risk factors of ocular discomfort included using expired contact lens,increased daily wearing times, wearing contact lens when washing face,sleeping,taking bath or making up.The protective factors included washing hands before taking contact lens in and out,renewing contact lens care solution in time,and cleaning the contact lens regularly.ConclusionOcular discomforts in contact lens wearer are closely related to contact lens wearing behavior.
