Relationship between social economical status and mental health among rural residents in Dongying city

  • ObjectiveTo examine the relationship between social economical status and the mental health among rural residents in Dongying city of Shandong province.MethodsThe residents were randomly selected with cluster sampling and interviewed with a self-designed questionnaire and Kessler 10 Rating Scale(K10).SPSS 15.0 software was used to analyze the data.Results Totally 2 599 residents were interviewed and the average total score of K10 was 14.86±6.30.There were 1 746 residents(67.2%)had a good mental health status,473(18.2%)had an ordinary mental health,and 379 (14.6%)had mild or moderate mental disorder.The influencing factors for mental disorder among the rural sidents were gender,age,education,and familial anaual income.ConclusionThe familial annual income is one of the general social economic status indicators and an important influencing factor for mental health status among rural residents.
