Life satisfaction in new generation migrant workers in Shandong province

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the life satisfaction and its influencing factors among new generation migrant workers and to provide references for improvement of quality of life of migrant workers.MethodsA total of 412 new generation migrant workers randomly selected with stratified sampling from 7 villages were investigated with a questionnaire.ResultsThe index of quality of life of the migrant workers was 0.5282.Among the 6 dimensions,social security(0.3672), material life quality(0.4916) and employment status(0.5211) were less than 0.6.Among the 22 factors,13 factors(59.1%) were less than 0.6,including endowment insurance(0.18),unemployment insurance(0.17) and industrial injury insurance(0.17).With cluster analysis,the migrant workers were divided into 5 types and 41.5% of the workers had the index of quality of life less than 0.6.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that education(odds ratio=0.586),material life quality(OR=1.883),protection of rights and interests(OR=2.192),and social security(OR=4.195) were the main influencing factors of the quality of life among the new generation migrant workers.ConclusionThe life satisfaction of new generation migrant workers in Shandong province is at a low level.
