Prevalence and influential factors of anxiety among middle school students in Nanchang city

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence and influential factors of anxiety among middle school students inNanchang city.MethodsMiddle school students in Nanchang were selected with cluster sampling and surveyed with questionnaires including Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),and a self-designed general questionnaire.ResultsThe overall prevalence of anxiety was 31.16% in the students with a mean anxiety score of 45.94?9.57.The prevalence and scores of anxiety in the third-year students were higher than those of other students.Multivariate logistic analyses indicated that third-year students,parents' expectation,study achievement,relationship with family members,and sleep problem were risk factors of anxiety,whereas interpersonal relationship and taking physical exercise every week were protective factors of anxiety.ConclusionThe anxiety is common among middle school students in Nanchang city and is influenced by personal,family,school,and other relevant factors.More attentions should be paid to the occurrence of anxiety in middle school students.
