Knowledge,attitude and willingness of organ donation among rural residents in Southwest of Hunan province

ObjectiveTo study knowledge,attitude and willingness of organ donation among rural residents,and to provide experimental basis for organ donation education in the countryside.MethodsA total of 988 rural residents selected with stratified random sampling were asked to answer a questionnaire.ResultsThe average score of knowledge,attitude and willingness of organ donation among the rural residents were 5.20?1.33,3.28?0.71,and 1.86?0.76,respectively.The average scores for identifying with the value of organ donation,the cause of blocking organ donation,and not identifying with the value of organ donation were 4.08?0.72,3.25?0.70,and 2.16?0.75,respectively.The proportion of the rural residents who stated they learned the knowledge of organ donation from television was 75.40%.There were statistically significant differences for the scores of knowledge and attitude of organ donation among the rural residents of different age and with different educational level.ConclusionThe rural residents' score of knowledge of organ donation was low and we should pay attention for health education on organ donation among the rural residents and improve their knowledge and attitude of organ donation.
