Abstract
Objective To investigate the anti-influenza virus(H1N1) effect of garlic oil in vitro. Methods Cytopathic effect(CPE) and methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium(MTT) assay were used to evaluate the toxicity of garlic oil against Madin-Darby canine kidney(MDCK) cells. The anti-inflnenza virus(H1N1) effect of garlic oil in vitro was oserved in four experimental groups:precaution group, direct effect group,anti-adsorption group, and anti-biosynthesis group. Results The antivirus effective rate(ER) of garlic oil was higher(22.5%) than that of ribavirin positive control in precaution group(P<0.05).Therapeutic index(TI) of garlic oil was higher than that of ribavirin positive control in all groups(P<0.01 for all). Conclusion Garlic oil has strong antivirus effect on influenza A virus(H1N1) with high safety.
