Status of medication education among residents in Guangdong province

  • ObjectiveTo examine the congnition on medication education and proper way of medication education among residents in Guangdong province for the promotion of medication compliance and safety among the public.MethodsWith random sampling,1 963 residents were selected from 21 cities or prefectures in eastern,western,and northern area of Guangdong province and Pearl-River Delta for a questionnaire survey.SPSS 19.0 software was used in data analyses.ResultsAmong the residents surveyed,75.13% did not know the meaning of medication education and 89.86% did not receive any medication education.Among the residents without history of medication education,52.5% expressed the desire to get the education on medication and the proportions of the residents selecting the form of the medication education were 46.0% for expert lecture,44.4% for propaganda film,42.1% for patients medication education,and 41.7% for community training program,respectively.ConclusionMost of the residents in Guangdong province did not get and had low cognition of medication education and about 90% of the residents had the desire to take part in education program on medication knowlege.
