Prevalence and spatial autocorrelation analysis of pulmonary tuberculosis in Zhejiang province,2000 to 2011

  • Objective To analyze the prevalent feature and spatial distribution of pulmonary tuberculosis in Zhejiang province from 2000 to 2011,and to provide evidences for control and prevention of pulmonary tuberculosis. Methods Data on pulmonary tuberculosis were analyzed with descriptive method and spatial autocorrelation analysis. Results The overall trend of pulmonary tuberculosis prevalence was up first and then down slowly in the province duriug the period, with an average annual incidence of 74.65 /100 000 and a significantly higher average annual incidence in the males than in the females(102.53/100 000 vs.45.48/100 000;χ2=60 520.05,P=0.000).The highest incidence was observed among the young adults aged 20-34 years, with a total of 124 910 cases accounting for 30.14% of all cases during the period. The overall Moran's I analysis showed that pulmonary tuberculosis in Zhejiang province clustered geographically and the regions with higher incidence were Wenzhou,Quzhou and Lishui city. Conclusion Pulmonary tuberculosis distributed unrandomly in Zhejiang province and corresponding prevention and control measures need to be implemented according to spatial distribution of the disease.
