Serum uric acid and cystatin C in patients with type II diabetic nephropathy

  • ObjectiveTo explore the clinical significance of serum uric acid and cystatin C(Cys-C)in patients with type II diabetic nephropathy and to analyze its relationship with urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER).MethodsTotally 253 outpatients and hospitalized patients with type II diabetes were recruited in a hospital and all the patients were divided into one of the three(simple diabetic, early diabetic nephropathy, and clinical diabetic nephropathy)groups according to whether having a kidney damage and its extent;then their UAER,serum uric acid,Cys-C,serum creatinine(Scr),and urine creatinine were detected and their creatinine clearance rates(Ccr)were calculated.ResultsThe serum uric acid and Cys-C increased with the increase of UAER and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).In addition,between-gender differences in all the laboratory indicators were statistically significant(all P<0.05).Correlation analysis showed that serum uric acid and Cys-C were positively correlatted with UAER(r=0.728,P<0.05 and r=0.681,P<0.05).ConclusionSerum uric acid and Cys-C increase significantly in the patients with type II diabetic nephropath.
