Human infection with avian influenza A(H5N6)virus in Yunnan province:first case report

ObjectiveTo analyze epidemiological characteristics of the first case of human infection with avian influenza A(H5N6)virus in Yunnan province and to provide evidences for control and prevention of the epidemic.MethodsEpidemiological investigations on the infected case,close contacts and infection source were carried out; relevant specimens were collected and tested in laboratories.The data gathered were analyzed with descriptive epidemiology method.ResultsThe case was diagnosed confirmedly as human infection with avian influenza A(H5N6)virus in February 2015,with clinical manifestations of fever,expectoration,dyspnea,inflammatory condition of lungs by X-ray,lower number of white blood cell in early stage and ascending later,and died of respiratory and circulatory failure.The case had confirmed history of contacting with wild avian,but the infection source was not ascertained.There was no secondary case among the close contacts.Avian influenza A viruses contamination existed widely in local poultry markets.ConclusionThe first case of human infection with avian influenza A in Yunnan province was reported and no evidence of human-to-human transmission was identified.
