Dietary status and standardized control among hospitalized diabetes patients

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the status of self-management and standardized control on diet and the occurrence of chronic complications among hospitalized diabetics.MethodsDiabetes patients hospitalized in First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University were enrolled in the study based on their consent.Questionnaire survey, medical records and electronic data on clinic detection were used for collecting relevant information on their diet status and control.ResultsTotally 2 641 diabetics(1 460 males and 1 181 females) were recruited and the average age of the participants was 53.42±12.89 years.Of the participants,34.46% reported familial history of diabetes;75.70%,30.81%,and 33.61% reported excessive intake of cooking oil, meat, and cereals;and 66.19% reported deficit intake of milk and dairy products. The proportions of the participants without standardized control were 73.97% for fasting glucose,94.86% for postprandial blood glucose,72.17% for glycosylated hemoglobin,38.25% for triglycerides,23.13% for total cholesterol, and 19.55% for low-density lipoprotein, respectively.ConclusionExcessive intakes of caloric and unbalanced nutrients were common among diabetic inpatients and there are wide gaps between the actual control situation and the ideal state in the indicators like fasting blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin, suggesting diet control needs to be promoted among diabetes patients.
