Status quo,requirement and influencing factors of professional training among medical technical personnel in Qinghai province

Abstract
Objective To examine current situation,requirement and relevant factors of professional training among medical staff in Qinghai province.Methods Field study was conducted for 55 medical institutions at various administrative levels and a questionnaire survey was carried out among 817 medical staffs from the institutions simultaneously.Chi-square test was adopted and SPSS 18.0 software was used in data analyses.Results Of the 817 staff surveyed,69.5% received professional training since working in the institutions.There was a significant difference in the proportion of receiving professional training among the staff from medical institutions in urban(78.9%),pastoral(67.9%),and rural area(65.1%)(χ2=9.69,P=0.008)and the staff in first-level medical institutions had a significant lower professional training rate(87.3%)than those in second-level(94.9%)and in third-level medical institutions(χ2=12.64,P=0.002).Of the staff from the institutions in rural and pastoral areas,55.7% and 54.5% selected institutions at province level for their professional training,however,the staff from the institutions in urban areas selected institutions at state level for their professional training.There were 48.8% of the staff considering once a year being the reasonable frequency,58.3% considering new knowledge being the most important content,and 49.6% considering specialized study being the best pattern for the professional training.The staff reported too less medical workers and difficulties in daily work arrangement in their institutions being the main factors preventing them from professional training.Conclusion The proportion of medical staff receiving professional training is low and insufficient medical workers and overload working are major factors impacting professional training among the medical staff in Qinghai province.
