Progress in researches on relationship between DNA damage and incidence of diabetes mellitus and its complications

  • DNA damage is a permanent change of nucleotide sequence in the process of DNA copy, which could lead to the change of genetic characteristics, and strongly relates to the development of some chronic diseases.Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease due to insulin secretion and dysfunction and that is characterized by long term high blood glucose and the disease has severe impacts on health, including the incidences of cardiovascular diseases, eye diseases, skin diseases, and urinary and nervous system diseases. In recent years, more researches on diabetes focus increasingly on the aspects of DNA damage. In this paper we review on the progress in researches on the relationship between DNA damage and the incidence of diabetes mellitus and its complications.
