Domestic publications of papers on public health and preventive medicine written by professionals in some universities in China,2008-2012: a biblimetric study

Objective To analyze domestic publications of scientific articles on public health and preventive medicine written by professionals in some universities in China during 2008-2012 for the promotion of scientific researches.Methods The domestic scientific articles published by the authors from 11 universities categorized as the top 10 for the capability of research on public health and preventive medicine by National Degree and Graduate Education Development Center of Ministry of Education in 2012 were retrieved and analyzed.Results Totally 4 323 domestic scientific articles on public health and preventive medicine were published by authors from the 11 universities during 2008-2012,with an annual average growth rate of 0.71%,of which,64.01% (2 767) were published by the professionals from the 11 universities as the first authors,with an average annual increase of 0.09% in the ratio,and 21.68% (600) were published by the first authors from Peking University.Among all the articles written by the professionals as the first author from the 11 universities,2 082 were published in Chinese core journals,with an average annual increase rate of -0.83%,and of the papers published in the core journals,432(20.75%) were written by the first authors from Peking University.The 2 767 articles (written by the first authors from the 11 universities) were cited 9 248 times by other papers and the times of citation for each of the papers were 3.34.Conclusion The publication status of domestic scientific articles written by the professionals from the top 11 universities for the capability of research on public health and preventive medicine is roughly consistent with the assessment ranking of the universities.
