Antihypertensive drug use among hypertensive inpatients in Liaoning province

  • ObjectiveTo examine antihypertensive drug use among hypertension patients hospitalized in hospitals of grade III class A in Liaoning province for the promotion of reasonable application of antihypertensive drugs.MethodsUsing convenient sampling we selected 4 hospitals of grade III class A in 2 cities of Liaoning province.Information on antihypertensive drug use were extracted from medical records of a total of 8 000 hypertension patients hospitalized in one of the 4 hospitals (2 000 patients for each hospital) between January 1,2011 and January 1,2016 and then analyzed statistically.ResultsThe most frequently used antihypertensive drug was amlodipine (8.49%,2 055/24 192 case-times).For all the antihypertensive drugs utilized,the maximum defined daily doses (DDDs) was 31 391.85 for valsartan; the maximum drug utilization index was 1.63 for valsartan amlodipine; and the minimum drug utilization index was 0.75 for imidapril.The utilized antihypertensive drugs with the drug utilization index approximately to one were losartan (0.98),nicardipine (0.99),metoprolol (1.01),irbesartan (1.02),and irbesartan hydrochlorothiazide (1.03),respectively.ConclusionThe utilization of antihypertensive drugs is rational for hypertension patients hospitalized in large hospitals in two cities of Liaoning province.
