Environmental contamination of avian influenza virus in live poultry markets in Jilin province

  • ObjectiveTo examine environmental contamination distribution of avian influenza virus in live poultry markets in Jilin province.MethodsHencoop swap specimens, chicken manure and sewage samples were collected with random sampling from 370 sampling sites at live poultry markets in 11 municipalities, prefectures, and counties across Jilin province during March of 2014 and detected for viral nucleic acid of avian influenza (H5,H9 and H7) with real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR.ResultsOf 1 110 samples detected,94 (8.47%) were avian influenza virus positive; of the positive samples,60 were positive for avian influenza H9,30 positive for H5,and 4 were positive for both H5 and H9; no positive sample for avian influenza H7 was detected.ConclusionAvian influenza virus contamination exists and H9 and H5 are predominant strains in the environment of live poultry markets in Jilin province.
