Proficiency ability for Schistosoma japonicum serological test among laboratories in Hubei province,2009-2015

  • Objective To analyze the results of proficiency testing for schistosomiasis serological test among laboratories in Hubei province from 2009 to 2015 and to verify problems in schistosomiasis test.Methods Data on proficiency testing for Schistosoma japonicum serological test with indirect hemagglutination assay (IHA) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) conducted among laboratories in Hubei province from 2009 to 2015 were collected and analyzed using SPSS 17.0.Results For a total of 364 samples detected with IHA by the laboratories during the 7-year period,the coincidence rate for positive and negative samples were 82.5% and 86.3%,without significant difference in the rate between positive and negative samples (χ2=0.993,P>0.05);whereas,for the 626 samples tested with ELISA,the coincidence rate of positive samples was significantly lower than that of negative samples (84.4% vs.92.9%)(χ2=10.636,P=0.001).The coincidence rate of IHA test results in 2013 was significantly higher than the rate in 2009 (χ2=7.990,P=0.005),but there was no significant increase in yearly coincidence rate for the test results with ELISA (P>0.008).Conclusion There were improvements in proficiency ability for schistosomiasis serological test in laboratories of Hubei province after 2009 but efforts still need to be made in some aspects with possible refinement.
