Influencing factors of violent aggressive behaviors among methamphetamine addicts in Liaoning province

  • Objective To investigate influencing factors of aggressive behaviors among methamphetamine addicts in Liaoning province and to provide evidences for implementing effective prevention and intervention measures by relevant agencies. Methods Using the data for Dynamic Management System for Drug Addicts in Liaoning Province,a total of 1 734 first identified methamphetamine addicts (aged≤40 years) were recruited in Shenyang,Anshan,Fushun,Dandong,Yingkou, and Liaoyang municipalities from January 2016 through September 2016.Aggressive behaviors among the methamphetamine addicts were evaluated with Modified Overt Aggression Scale (MOAS) and then the addicts were assigned into an aggression group (n=408) and a non-aggression group (n=1 326) based on the results of the assessment.Multivariate non-conditional logistic regression model was used to analyze the related factors of aggressive behaviors among the methamphetamine addicts. Results The results of multivariate non-conditional logistic regression showed that parental drug or alcohol abuse(odds ratioOR=4.03, 95% confidence interval95%CI:3.18-4.89),partner violence (OR=7.50, 95%CI:6.86-8.13),excitatory personality traits (OR=1.11, 95%CI:1.01-1.22),distrust personality traits (OR=3.97, 95%CI:2.74-5.19),father's refused or denied rearing style (OR=2.52, 95%CI:2.12-2.91) were the risk factors of aggressive behaviors among methamphetamine addicts; whereas overall high social support score (OR=0.54, 95%CI:0.45-0.63) was a protective factor. Conclusion Violent aggressive behaviors among methamphetamine addicts are influenced by stress, familial and social factors; the results suggest comprehensive intervention measures are warranted to deal with the problem.
