Relationship between rates of overweight obesity and hypertension, diabetes

  •   Objective   To research into the link between the body mass index(BMI)of townsman and the diseases of hypertension and diabetes.
      Methods   To sample 810 townsmen(403 male and 407 female)aged 35-74 with cluster random sampling in a random residential area of a random district of Nanning Guangxi in the year of 2000.
      Results   The standardization hypertension prevalence rate is 18.1% for the cluster with BMI < 24.0;while it is 35.1%for the cluster with BMI≥24.0- < 28.0 and 31.4% for the cluster BMI≥28.0.The standardization hypertension prevalence rate for townsmen is 2318%.The WC values of both male and female patients with hypertension are significant(P < 0.01)as compared with the normotensives.The TG and cho values of female patients with hypertension are significant(P < 0.01)as compared with the normotensives, The HDLc and TG values of male patients with hypertension are significant as compared with the normotensives.The overweight and adiposity rate of male investigatees is 38.5%, while that of female investigatees is 34.4%.The risk factor of hypertension and diabetes increases along with the level of BMI and WC.
      Conclusion   The increase of BMI and WC is one of key factors in hypertension and diabetes.BMI and WC are of great sanitary science consequene to control hypertension and diabetes.
