Epidemiological study on 150 attempted suicides

  •   Objective   To understand the epidemiological features of attempted suicide in Shandong province, and provide the base for the intervention of suicide behavior.
      Methods   Departments of emergency or internal medicine in 7 hospitals were selected from four counties and 3 cities in Shandong province.During Jan.and Sep.2003, the information of 150 attempted suicides were collected and analyzed by descriptive study and correlation analysis.
      Results   The suicide behaviour was more often in the population living in rural area, young female, low education level, peasants, the married, lower average month income, affective conflicts.The percent of attempted suicides with others on the spotor nearby was 56.0%.42.0% of attempted suicides really aimed to death.Compared with female attempted suicides, the male were higher education level, higher average monthly income, mental disorder, unsatisfactory with career, no impulsion.Compared with attempted suicides in rural area, the urban were higher education level, higher average income, unsatisfactory with their career, not needing family economic help, with hope for the future.Depression was related with the factors involved economic, mental, psychology, and social support aspect.Impulsion was more seen in the persons with female, introversion, no mental disorder, satisfactory with the future life.
      Conclusion   Similar epidemiologic features were seen in different districts.Different kinds of attempted suicide were different in related factors.Suicide behaviour can be intervened.
