Role of orexin in appetite regulation of DIO-R rats

  •   Objective   In order to explore the role of orexin A, B in appetite regulation of diet-induced obesity resistant(DIO-R)rats.
Methods   Fifty male Sprague-dawley(SD)rats were randomly divided into control group and high-fat group and were fed with basic diet and high-fat diet respectively for 13 weeks.Diet-induced obesity resistant and diet-induced obesity rats were selected according to their body weight and the quantity of energy intake, then observing change of the food intake and the content of orexin A, B in brain was determined by Western Blot.
Results   The total food intake of DIO-R rats were lower than those of DIO rats(P < 0.05).High fat diets increased the content of orexin A and orexin B of rats, but there was no significant difference between DIO-R and DIO rats.
Conclusion   The increasing appetite role of orexin A and orexin B was covered by other anti-appetite factors, also orexin A and orexin B played minor role in appetite regulation of DIO-R rats.
