Epidemiological survey on essential hypertension and influential factors among coal workers

  •   Objective   To understand the epidemiological factors and prevalence of essential hypertension in the coal workers.
      Methods   A testing survey on essential hypertension was carried out in Xinwen Mining Company in Shandong.About 3 000 person's blood pressure were tested at random sample and interview was face to face.
      Results   The prevalence of essential hypertension in the coal workers was 31.4%, and its standardization rate was 33.65%, far higher than the average level of country.The main risk factors include age, family hypertensive history, drinking, body mass index, high grease diet and so on.Especially correlated with occupation, the type of job and the time of engaging this job.Contrary to those, drinking tea, exercise and the legume diet were the protective factors.
      Conclusion   The high prevalence rate of hypertension in coal workers correlated with the type of job and the work environment.
