Objective To establish a valid model of integrative AIDS/STD intervention, and to evaluate its effect of a community-based intervention in a mining area in China.
Methods By systematically sampling, 650 dwellers in the selected mining area were recruited.Health education procedure was carried out for 4 months.The effect of intervention was evaluated by interview twice before and after the intervention.
Results After the subjects were intervened for 4 months, the rate of AIDS/STD awareness of the subjects increased from 59.08% to 86.98%.Moreover, compared with pre-intervention, the intent of voluntary counseling and testing for AIDS/STD among most subjects turned to significantly positive.
Conclusion The community-based AIDS/STD intervention was effective for residents in mining area, and was worthy to further research and gener alize in other similar communit ies in China.
