Effects of Low-level Lead Exposure on Children's Intelligence with Multiple Factors Analysys

  • To evaluate the effects of low-level lead exposure on children's intelligence,148 children(8~12 years old)who live on smeltery、lysine plant and suburb in Nanning were examined blood lead concentration(pbB),intelligence quotient(WIS'IQ)and other factors of intelligence. From the data, the avarage pbB level of all objects was 0.4002μmol/L.With t-test and multiple analysis of covariance,it indicated the verbal IQ(VIQ),performance IQ(PIQ)and full-scale IQ(FIQ)of the relatively high lead(pbB>0.4357μmol/L)group were lower than that of relativly low lead(pbB<0.3666μmol/L)group.But no signifi ant difference was observed.By stepwise regression analysis, the result showed that lead level would only play a minor role in affecting VIQ of children under the lead exposure level in this study, and this pb-related disadvantage of intelligence would be concealed by other factors after 15 objects whose pbB>0.48μmol/L had excepted from sample.
