Knowledge,attitude and practice towards disinfection among community residents

Objective To investigate the knowledge,attitude and practice towards disinfection among community residents. Methods A total of 943 residents aged 18- 79 years were randomly selected with stratified multi-stage cluster sampling. Each participant was invited to receive a set of face-to-face standardized questionnaire survey. Results Among the residents,knowledge rate for dealing with home smell,dead cat or dog,and cockroach was 3. 8%,12. 4%,and26. 3%,respectively. The Average score for eight knowledge questions was 4. 01 ± 1. 32 and the score was higher in the residents with professional work（ t value: 6. 207,P = 0. 000） and with good education（ t value:- 4. 404,P = 0. 000）. The knowledge rate about the necessity of family preventive disinfection,using disinfectant in disease epidemic,and the need to accept professional guidance was 89. 8%,98. 4%,and 89. 4%,respectively. There were 90. 1% of the residents paying attention to disinfectant labels,with a higher ratio in females（ χ2= 7. 165,P = 0. 007）; there were 73. 4% of the residents taking protective measures when using disinfectant,with higher ratios in young residents（ χ2= 4. 036,P = 0. 045）,in residents with professional work（ χ2= 7. 827,P = 0. 005） and with good education（ χ2= 12. 028,P = 0. 001）. Conclusion Community residents are lack of disinfection knowledge,suggesting health education and promotion should be developed to promote right disinfection practice among the residents.
