Relationship between blood pressure control and behavioral factors in hypertensive patients in urban and rural areas of Shandong province

  • Objective To study the status quo of blood pressure( BP) control in hypertensive patients and to explore the relationship between BP control and relevant behavioral factors. Methods Totally 9 182 hypertension patients were sampled with cluster sampling and surveyed with a questionnaire. Treatment behaviors( BP monitoring, drugs usage),health behaviors( quitting from smoking or alcohol drinking, controlling diet) were analyzed with χ2test and binary logistic regression. Results The ratio of patients with controlled BP was 43. 81%( 44. 14% for urban patients and 43. 55%for rural patients, without significant difference; χ2= 0. 276,P = 0. 599). The results of logistic regression showed that after adjustment of gender, age, and income, the control of BP varied directly with the level of appropriate diets and inversely with the number of antihypertensive drugs used for ruban patients. Conclusion The blood pressure control in hypertensive patients is relevant to treatment behaviors and health behaviors. More attentions should be paid to appropriate diet and the rational use of antihypertensive drugs in hypertension control.
