Abstract: Objective To comprehend the type constitution,the distribution of age,sex and occupation and the blindness incidence of the hospitalized glaucoma patients in recent 5 years and to disscuss the treatment correspondingly.Methods The investigation,statistics and analysis were undertaken according to the medical records of 539 glaucoma patients who were hospitalized during 1997-2001.Results Among the 539 hospitalized glaucoma patients,patients with primary glaucoma were 420(77.92%);secondary glaucoma were 87(16.14%);congenital glaucoma were 32(5.94%).Acute angle-closure glaucoma(acute ACG)were 260,chronic angle-closure glaucoma(chronic ACG)were 139,open angle glaucoma(OA G)were 29,and respectively they were 61.90%,33.10%,5.00% in the primary glaucoma patients.There were 236 men and 303 women among all 539 patients.Most of the acute ACG patients were female(65.00%,169/260).Age distribution:The average age of actute ACG patients was 61.4±10.0 years;chronic ACG was 57.3±9.4 years;OA G was 46.9±12.4 years;congen2 ital glaucoma was 2.1±015 years.occupation distribution:of all patients,workers and farmers were 379 cases(74.46%).blindness incidence:bilateral blindness was 16.27%,and unilateral blindness was 38.92%.Conclusion Among the hopital2 ized glaucoma patients in recent 5 years,the major type was primary ACG.Most of the patients were aged,female,workers and farmers(the latter two kinds were over 70%)with severe loss of visual function and high blindness incidence.Thus,we should made great efforts to publicize and spread the knowledge of the preventation and treatment of glaucoma,to make the early diagnoses,and to treat the patients properly.
