Abstract:
Objective To identify HIV/AIDS -related attitudes and examine the reasons for these attitudes among health care workers.
Methods 87 health care workers who took care of HIV/AIDS patients were asked to participate in a stigma role play named "How do you feel about HIV/AIDS."Participants completed an anonymous questionnaire about HIV/AIDS issues and answered whether they agree, disagree or it depends to each question. After completion participants exchanged answer sheets and discussed the responses of the answer sheets they were given.
Results Among 20 questions, only 7 viewpoints got a consistent result.Others the choices were less clear. After deep discussion, absence of HIV/AIDS knowledge, unaware of austerity situation of HIV/AIDS and lacking of correct and consistent H1V/AIDS prevention and treatment and behavior viewpoint were the main reasons of discordance.
Conclusion Although health workers at some HIVDiagnosis and Treatment Sectors have relatively high basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention, their HIVspecific knowledge is rather poor.Lack of correct and consistent HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and behavior viewpoint cannot be ignored.Training them of HIV specific knowledge and reasonable attitude and behavior should be initiated urgently.
