Expressions of tumor biomarkers in blood and prognosis of colorectal cancer

  • Objective To explore the associations between carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA),carbohydrate antigen(CA19-9) and clinical outcomes in colorectal cancer(CRC)patients. Methods A total of 123 cases with CRC were selected in the study. The data for clinical/pathological factors and clinic outcomes were collected. There lation ships between CEA,CA19-9 level,clinical/pathological factors and survival were analyzed. Results There was a significant difference in CEA positive rate between the lymphnode metastasis group and non-metastasis group(P=0.039).CA19-9 positive rate was significant different in Dukes stages(P=0.025).For cases with positive result of single CEA,CA19-9,or the combination of the two,the survival time was significantly less than that of the cases with negative result(P=0.022,0.002 and 0.008,re spectively). The tumorhistological type(oddsratioOR=2.524,95% confidence intervalCI:1.230-5.182;P=0.012)and CA19-9(OR=3.310,95%CI:1.371-7.991;P=0.008)were independent negative prognosis factors by Coxreg ression test. Conclusion High serum level of CEA and CA19-9 may predict poor outcome for colorectal cancer patients.Tumorhistological type and CA19-9 mayact as independent prognosis factors for colo rectal cancer.
