Prevalence and correlated factors of sleep disorder in Parkinson's disease patients

  •   Objective  To analyze the clinical features and influencing factors of sleep disorder in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients.
Methods  Totally 140 PD patients were involved in the study. We analyzed the incidence of sleep disorder in the patients and compared the clinical characteristics of PD between the patients with and without the disorder. We adopted Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Scale for Outcomes in Parkinson's Disease for Autonomic Symptoms (SCOPA-AUT), and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to evaluate the condition of the patients and to explore influencing factors of the sleep disorder in the patients.
Results  Of the 140 patients, 92 (65.7 %) were identified with sleep disorder. The daily dose of dopamine, the course of disease, and the scores of PSQI, HAMD of the patients with sleep disorder were higher than those of the patients without sleep disorder (P < 0.05 for all). There was a significant difference in PSQI score among the patients with various depressive states.
Conclusion  The daily dose of dopamine, depression, and course of disease are related to sleep disorder and the severity of depression is positively correlated with PSQI score in PD patients.
