Objective To analyze the prevalence of pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome (PIH) among puerperae in Hebei province and to provide a reference for the prevention and control of PIH.
Methods We collected records of 35 330 puerperae delivering at 20 gestational weeks or more during 2016 at 22 medical facilities designated for surveillance on critically ill pregnant women in Hebei province and analyzed the data retrospectively.
Results Among all the puerperae, the overall prevalence rate of PIH was 9.44% and the prevalence rate was 1.37% (the number of the patients:485, in proportion to all the PIH cases: 14.54%) for chronic hypertension, 2.60% (918, 27.53%) for gestational hypertension, 1.38% (486, 14.57%) for mild preeclampsia, 4.02% (1 413, 42.37%) for severe preeclampsia, and 0.09% (33, 0.99%) for eclampsia, respectively. The prevalence rate of PIH differed significantly by age, education, gravidity, and parity in the puerperae(all P < 0.05).
Conclusion The prevalence of PIH was relatively high and the most prevalent PIH was severe preeclampsia among puerperae in Hebei province in 2016. The results suggest surveillance and intervention on PIH are warranted among the pregnant women.
