Prevalence and influencing factors of chronic diseases among Nu residents aged 15 years and above in Yunnan province, 2016

  •   Objective  To analyze the prevalence and influencing factors of chronic diseases among Nu residents aged 15 years in Yunnan province in 2016.
Methods  We conducted a face-to-face questionnaire survey on health status and life behaviors among 236 permanent Nu residents (aged≥15 years) in 209 households selected with cluster random sampling in Bingzhongluo town of Gongshan county of Yunnan province in 2016. We adopted unconditional logistic regression in data analyses.
Results  Among the participants, the self-reported prevalence rate was 4.9% for overweight or obese, 12.4% for hypertension, 5.8% for diabetes, 7.3% for abnormal blood lipids, and 0.5% for stroke. The results of univariate analysis demonstrated that following factors were statistically associated with the prevalence of chronic diseases: gender, occupation, household annual income, smoking, medical examination, paternal hypertension, maternal hypertension, with a sibling suffering from hypertension, and with a sibling suffering from coronary heart disease (P < 0.1 for all). Annual household income of 15 000 to 19 999 Yuan RMB was a hindering factor for suffering from chronic disease (odds ratio = 0.046, P = 0.008) after adjusting for potential confounding factors among the participants.
Conclusion  The prevalence of chronic diseases is relatively serious and household economic status is a significant impact factors on the prevalence among Nu residents aged 15 years and above in Yunnan province.
