  •   Objective  To examine the prevalence and risk factors of malignant tumor among residents aged 15 years and above living in southern area of Guizhou province and to provide references for implementing relevant interventions.
Methods  A total of 98 867 residents (≥ 15 years old) were randomly selected using random cluster sampling in Qiannan prefecture of Guizhou province and surveyed with a face-to-face interview and physical examination between May 2016 and October 2017.
Results  Among all the participants, 397 malignant tumor cases were diagnosed, with a prevalence rate of 397.53/100 000 and a standardized prevalence rate of 395.46/100 000. The results of unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed following risk factors for malignant tumor incidence in the participants: female gender, aged ≥ 40 years, Buyi nationality, annual household income of > 10 000 yuan RMB per capita, unemployed, retired, family history of tumor, obesity, smoking, alcohol drinking, preference for salty/fatty/smoked/spicy/hot food, environmental arsenic exposure history, and long-term stress or anxiety; whereas, preference for warm food and frequent physical exercise were protective factors against malignant tumor incidence.
