Interventions on screen-based sedentary behavior among children: a review

  • Screen-based sedentary behavior (SSB) associates closely with physical and mental health in children and adolescents. The study reviewed current literatures related to SSB intervention based on database of Web of Science, PubMed, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. The results indicated that intervention on reducing SSB has minor but significant effects in children and adolescents. Parental involvement and home-based physical environments are the key factors to against prolonged screen time. Future studies should focus on interventions on all SSB types including small screen devices (such as smartphone), long-term follow up and multiple settings based on relevant health related behavior theories and behavior change techniques.
