Blood pressure control and its influence factors among hypertension patients in Sijing town of Shanghai city

  •   Objective  To examine the status of and the influence of behavioral factors on blood pressure control among hypertensive patients in Sijing town, Songjiang district of Shanghai city.
Methods  Using cluster sampling, we enrolled 6 391 hypertensive patients in Sijing town for questionnaire surveys and physical examinations from October 2017 to September 2018. The patients′ data on blood control and its influencing factors were collected and analyzed with univariate statistics and multivariate logistic regression analysis.
Results  Of the patients surveyed, 5 807 (83.78%) had their blood pressure under control. Univariate statistics demonstrated that the patients with following characteristics had significantly high blood control rate compared to those without the characteristics: at younger age, not smoking, having regular antihypertensive medication, limiting salt consumption, having regular physical exercise, and adhering to healthy behavior prescription (P < 0.05 for all). Logistic regression analysis revealed that regular antihypertensive medication, limitation of salt consumption, and regular physical exercise were major influence factors for effective control of blood pressure in the patients (all P < 0.05).
Conclusion  The blood control rate was relatively high and mainly influenced by regular antihypertensive medication, limitation of salt consumption, and regular physical exercise among community hypertension patients in Sijing town of Shanghai city.
